SCALE - the Electric Trucks Demand Aggregation and Deployment Initiative.
India has over 4 million trucks on the road, carrying 70% of the country’s domestic freight, and accounting for almost 14% of the GDP. Trucks make up 44% of the total GHG emissions from transportation, yet less than 1% are electric.
To increase the number of electric trucks on the road, INTENT is developing a program to enable investment into electric trucks, and working upstream to make the opportunity bankable.
The SCALE Coalition is an aggregation based deployment initiative for an exclusive group of companies volunteering to transition to electric freight.
Solution Labs: Testing ideas
This initiative designs commercial pilots in the electric mobility and energy transition space. It tests early ideas with a potential to scale in the real world using a mix of soft and commercial capital.
The lab is testing its first pilots for electric school buses in India.
KnowledgeEX: Knowledge Creation and Sharing
We are launching a knowledge exchange platform for countries in the global South. Our work is rooted in rigorous intellectual depth, yet always directed toward real-world application. We combine research, finance, business models, and investment solutions with a strong focus on public impact. Our strength lies in deep upstream development and the creation of knowledge products that shape meaningful, scalable change across the world.
More information will be available soon.
SCALE Coalition - Sustainable Climate Action through Logistics Electrification.
SCALE is a leadership-based industry coalition under development, aggregating demand for heavy duty electric trucks and enabling deployment through long term contracts. INTENT is inviting trucking demand from corporate leaders across India, with a focus on five sectors most likely to use heavy duty trucking: cement, steel, chemicals/fertilizers, mines and ports. Drawing lessons from the eBus deployment exercise, INTENT aims to standardize demand conditions through technical and operational analyses, assess viability on routes offered by companies and deploy electric trucks.
SCALE is a collective initiative of truck manufacturers, corporate manufacturing entities, transportation companies, charging infrastructure providers, investors and think-tanks in close dialogue with the Government of India.
To expedite deployment, INTENT is investing in up to 50 heavy duty electric trucks at the same rates as diesel freight.
INTENT will be working with traditional diesel truck operators to share operational experience and enabling their transition for large scale impact. Aggregating demand from the market, we will auction mobility services enabling lowest prices for electric transport.
Through SCALE, companies benefit from reduced freight rates, meet decarbonization targets, reduce scope 3 emissions, and collectively raise industry benchmarks.
INTENT welcomes companies to join SCALE!
Solutions Labs
INTENT runs dedicated Labs that incubate real-world applications through collective engagement with industry stakeholders and impact seekers. Enabled by technical assistance support, these Labs bring stakeholders together to co-create solutions, test innovations, and accelerate pathways to scalable impact. Labs are designed to become structured pipelines for energy transition solutions.
The first pilot for electric school buses is under development. For more details, or if you are interested in participating in this Lab, please email us.
KnowledgeEx - A Knowledge Exchange for the Global South
Many countries in the Global South face significant challenges in transitioning to electric public transport, including lack of technical capacity, limited access to operational data, and uncertainty around scalable business models. While interest in eMobility is growing, most countries lack practical experience or peer-driven guidance suited to their socio-economic contexts.
India, having launched the second largest electric bus deployments in the developing world, offers a wealth of real-world experience. However, there is currently no structured mechanism to share these insights with other Global South nations.
KnowledgeEx is being designed as an exchange platform led by India that facilitates discussions, technical cooperation, and policy dialogue on electric buses across the Global South.
With over 10,000 electric buses on the road and various state-level initiatives, India offers valuable lessons in public-private partnerships, procurement models, cost optimization, charging infrastructure planning, operational integration and designing for scale. India can facilitate a structured knowledge exchange by creating regional learning platforms, organizing peer-to-peer dialogues, offering technical assistance, and sharing data-driven insights through open-source repositories and toolkits.
