SPARK is a pilot program for the deployment of electric school buses for schools in India that wish to transition to cleaner, safer, and future-ready transport. Designed as an interactive program with select schools, INTENT will deploy zero-emission buses with enhanced safety standards suited to carry children.
SPARK brings together schools, experienced bus operators, leading electric bus manufacturers, clean-air researchers, medical doctors and philanthropic partners to overcome the cost and design barriers that have held back electric school buses in India. The program introduces purpose-built eBuses tailored to school needs - short daily routes, high safety specifications and child-friendly design.
Beyond clean transport, the pilot adds a fun, hands-on science lab for kids, transforming the school bus into a moving classroom on wheels. Through interactive screens, air-quality sensors, and simple experiments, children get to explore how clean air works, how batteries power electric buses, and how their everyday choices can help protect the planet - making the ride to school exciting, educational, and inspiring. Climate change and air quality awareness modules offer kids the opportunity engage with doctors in a fun way, and not just when they are sick!

India has 3.5 million school buses that transport children everyday across the country…. and less than 10 are electric are in operation.
Children spend hours every week in buses - yet almost all of them still run on diesel.
INTENT is enabling a safe, affordable, and practical transition to electric school transport that is valuable to schools and partners. To do this, INTENT will start with a pilot project on a first-come-first served basis with select schools. Based on experience from this pilot, new demand from schools will be collected for large scale deployment. Schools and operators benefit from economies of scale through this demand aggregation approach.
